I have been wondering why people use a blog. I understand that before (10 years or even more) it was called weblog, and it was more of a day book (on the Internet) of sorts. People just wrote their thoughts of the day on weblogs instead of a paperback book.
Photo shooters
Some even had some photo albums in a same kinda of style, called photolog. And mostly just added some pictures now and then to it and the photolog was created. Sometimes even people wrote some notes on what the pictures was about.
And then we had..
The guestbooks. They are rarely on sites or blogs anymore, they have kinda disappeared as the commenters fields has been added to "everything". Those was kinda cool and people didn't even care about some of them, and the weirdness was all over the place. And the guestbooks was even sometimes use to "chat" with others.
Modern blogs
So when you combine the weblogs, photologs and guestbooks you have a modern blog, eventually they grow out to be very advanced and nowadays more and more companies integrate them in their corporate structure. Private users have a thousands of templates to chose from and more addons than there are blogger.
